Hangtown MX 2012 Roadtrip iPhone Gallery - Dirt Rider Magazine

Dirt Rider Editor-At-Large Jimmy Lewis, myself and two "adventure newbies" (but extremely accomplished riders), set out to test the 2012 offerings from KTM, BMW, Yamaha, and Triumph. While I had cameras and some video gear in tow, iPhones were also brought out to capture the journey. Link below has a description of the trip & some of the cellphone-documentation.

Adventure Summit - teaser video

Solo adventures can involve moments of beauty, confusion, excitement, exhaustion, and occaisonaly, boredom. At the end of the day, there's rarely a bad moment to be recalled. It's all part of the experience.

Soundtrack was recorded digitally and remastered on an old cassette-tape multitrack to "dirty up" the tone and more closely match the super-8 vibe of the footage. Some of the strings used in the audio:

Lake Tahoe Adventure Motorcycle Ride

With snow-capped mountains, vast deserts, twisty pavement, and all manner of offroad trails, Lake Tahoe is surrounded by adventure. Located in the heart of the Sierra Nevada mountains, virtually any route taken to this stunningly clear lake is a first class ride. Already a motorcycle-friendly destination, the city is working to be even more welcoming for two-wheeled visitors, and putting an emphasis on adventure-touring bikes. Arguably the best type of vehicle to experience what this area has to offer.

I recently took a Triumph 800XC on a circuitous route to & from the area to attend a media event about what the city has planned. If you have an adventure bike, or are thinking about getting one, this place is a must to include on your list of adventures. More info: http://tahoeadventuremoto.com/

Upcoming video will include several scenes shot in the Lake Tahoe area and elsewhere.  Few screenshots from the raw footage below.

Dirt Rider Magazine Adventure Bike shoot

Dirt Rider Magazine was recently sent a group of bikes for evaluation in an upcoming special issue. Editor-at-large Jimmy Lewis, myself, and two other pro MX/desert riders put the machines through their paces in remote California and Nevada terrain. The results are encouraging for all those looking to escape the beaten path for a time.

Left-right: Triumph Tiger 800XC, KTM 990 Adventure, Yamaha Tenere, and BMW 1200 GS Adventure.

I rode the Triumph 800XC for the initial portion of the test. We all later took turns switching bikes to get an idea what the new offerings from each company were all about.

Jimmy referencing his maps. Experience counts here. While we did carry GPS units, they weren't used. The entire route was based on paper maps.
